So if you care about others and want to do good for the society, join us. Volunteering can be the most satisfying and rewarding experience for you. Besides bookish knowledge, the real world experience is the one that gets you a good job or helps acquire entrepreneurship skills.

CityNeeds is a virtual platform connecting local NGOs with their nearest and relevant volunteers and donors. In our first year we have partnered with 70+ local NGOs and raised over 1 crore rupees. With our dedicated volunteers, we have also organised huge donation drives for people who needed food, books, blood, or clothes etc. Needless to say, that our volunteers have blossomed their personalities by way of organising mega events on their own. We are now expanding to Punjab and will partner with over 400 NGOs in our 2nd year. This brings a huge opportunity for volunteers across the state. 2. Menstrual Hygiene

According to a UNICEF report, more than 70% girls in India are unaware about periods till the first time they bleed. The lack of education about menstrual hygiene in India leads to misinformation, shame, and even sickness. Even in the 21st century, so many girls and women cannot talk about it openly, and so they are not aware about proper ways to take care of their health in this delicate time.

Women Next Door has taken an initiative to stop the hush-hush around this, not just among women but also among boys and men. In this online workshop, you can learn about how to openly and thoroughly discuss periods and its healthy practices. Have all your questions answered about how periods happen, and how to best care for the body during that time. You can learn through interactive videos, diagrams, and even comics! This workshop is open and encouraging to everyone, regardless of age or gender. Under the advanced training, you can also learn to be a Period Educator for others.

3. Child Abuse Awareness and Protection

Shockingly, 53% of the Indian children are victims of emotional, physical or sexual abuse. 1 in 6 boys and 1 in 4 girls experience some form of sexual abuse before they turn 18 years of age. Around 90% of these crimes are perpetrated by the family members and more than 70% of these cases are not even reported and shared. Why? Because most children don’t even understand what has happened to them or they are ashamed to talk about it.

We need strong awareness for Prevention of child abuse. In this online awareness program, a well-renowned senior Paediatrician and Counsellor in Ludhiana, Dr. Mehak Bansal will address the audience who want to create awareness on this topic and the inspired volunteers can later undergo an advanced program to become a counsellor. This is for all parents and teachers to teach their children good touch and bad touch and self-protection techniques to their 5-12-year olds and sexual education & Self Awareness program to the elder ones. This workshop will include simple techniques with simple words to make it the most effective and impactful communication. 4. Consumer Rights Awareness

Any person who buys a product or service is called a consumer. This definition includes all of us. And so, Under the Consumer Protection Act in India, all of us have the right to get value for our money in all respects. Unfortunately, many of us are not aware of these consumer rights or the duties as sellers. This lead to cases of fraud and cheating or dissatisfaction amongst customers and at times, even direct threat to our safety. In this workshop, senior officers from Bureau of Indian Standards (Government of India) and experienced social activists from Akhil Bhartiya Grahak Panchayat will share knowledge on all basic consumer rights. Not only will this make you aware about your own rights, but it will also help you watch out for your family and friends. From a career perspective also, it will help you in all your future assignments, jobs and business. 5. Right to Information

Every Indian citizen is given the power to seek information directly from the Government. Under the provisions of the Right to Information Act, you can request information from a public authority. The authorities have to reply with documents and information within 30 days of your letter. . This Act is now a powerful tool to fight corruption and make the authorities accountable for their acts and responsibilities. Sadly, many people are not aware of this and don’t use the power of this act. This workshop is to create awareness on this subject and guide the process of obtaining such information.

6. Government Welfare Schemes

There are over 5000 welfare schemes by the Government of India for the underprivileged in our society? These schemes can provide MILLIONS of labour and construction workers great benefits for better education, health, livelihood etc. Yet sadly, the beneficiaries are either not aware of these schemes or don’t know how to avail them. But some organisations like Act Humane take such challenges as their responsibility. Act Humane in association with CityNeeds is inviting Volunteers who can get trained and help the beneficiaries avail these schemes. To start with you will learn about most relevant and applicable schemes, their eligibility criteria, documentation process, application process of schemes available for Industrial Labour and Construction Workers empowering you to conduct awareness camps in various industries and communities. An honorarium is also offered to trained volunteers to conduct these awareness workshops in industry.

7. Fake News

Today, majority of Indians are connected to the internet. Every day, we use it to read, share, and spread news around us. It has become our largest network for sharing knowledge and information about the world. But in wrong hands, this powerful network can quickly turn very dangerous. Fake News on social media can create huge problems in the country. It can disturb the law and order and social security of a region or create frustration and depression. So it is very important to learn how to filter the content we absorb. This workshop will help you learn how to verify facts and identify fake news. It will teach you how to find websites and news sources which can be trusted. The workshop will be held by a reputed journalist who will give expert tips on how to consume internet news meaningfully and avoid any scams. Be more aware and more capable of spotting and fighting fake news on social media platforms.

8. Road Safety Awareness Volunteers

India reports 1214 accidents per day, resulting in more than 1.5 lac deaths per year. The major reason behind these shocking numbers is rash driving and disobeying the traffic rules. And now the number of vehicles on our roads is increasing day by day, so the number of accidents will also increase. That’s why there is an urgent need for continuous awareness about road safety etiquettes from a young age. Organizations like Punjab Road Safety Council and Punjab Police regularly conduct workshops about sensible driving and road safety. 9. Government Schemes for Disabled Awareness Volunteers

As per World Bank, 5-6% Indians is disabled in some way. Although the Government of India has introduced many welfare schemes for the disabled, very few people actually receive the benefits. This is mainly due to lack of awareness and understanding of how to avail these schemes. With a few dedicated volunteers, this scenario can be changed. In this workshop, participants can learn about major Government schemes for the disabled community - like

• Deendayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme

• ADIP Scheme

• SEHYOG Scheme for Mentally Ill Persons

• Vocational Rehabilitation Centres

• Unique ID Project

Advanced training can also be availed to be a certified volunteer and create awareness about these schemes at a larger level. With this workshop, you can be a better ally for those with disabilities and help to reduce their suffering a little.
