In the serene hills of Chamoli, Uttarakhand, a sudden cloudburst turned three peaceful villages — Kunthari, Sera, and Dhurma — into scenes of heartbreak. 9 lives lost, including two children from the Happy Bal Sangathan. 28 families, 213 people, lost everything they owned
On September 17, 2025, a major disaster, through a cloud bust struck 3 villages, Kunthari Phali, Sera, and Dhurma, in the Nanda Nagar block of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand where the Mountan Children’s Foundation works. In this devastating tragedy, 9 people lost their lives as they were buried under the debris of which were 2 young children aged 11 who belonged to the ‘Happy Bal Sangathan’.
The situation in the area is currently very grim, with many houses in the village destroyed. People are residing in safer locations elsewhere. The people of Kunthari and Phali are staying at Maria Ashram, Nandanagar, where their food arrangements are being managed by the government, which will last perhaps till the 15 of October. The affected families of Sera and Dhurma are staying in the homes of other villagers.
Over 50 families have been impacte d by this catastrophic disaster. People's homes have been destroyed, and there has been significant loss of livestock, including cows, oxen, goats, and buffaloes, as well as damage to cattle sheds. The arable land has been severely affected, and crops have also been damaged. 28 families have had their homes completely destroyed, leaving them with nothing, these amount to 213 people – of which about 100 are children and 11 families belong to the Schedule Cast.
The Mountain Children’s Foundation has already reached out and provided some support to the families but have not been able to support their need for utensils and other kitchen material.

The request is that whatever the support is it will be given to all 28 families, as we cannot give some and not give the others. The material needs to reach Nanda Nagar Chamoli.
