"Poor Parents abandoned their premature born baby in the hospital in 2008, when I was working with CMC Ludhiana. I don’t know what made them do that but for me, that was absolutely heartbreaking.
I took the responsibility and looked after the poor underweight baby girl who was barely 900 gms.
In the next three months, the baby completely recovered and was good to go back home, but there was no home for her to return. I couldn’t adopt her and the only option for me was to find a good shelter home. When I reached one of the orphanages recommended to me, there were more such stories that I stumbled upon, more horrifying than that of the baby I was holding in my arms.
Stories of how the orphanage found them thrown in dustbins, thrown in open drainage just because they were girl child or differently abled. Something changed within me that day and I never looked back.”
Dr Mehak Bansal, a paediatrician and a philanthropist who has been tirelessly working towards child welfare since 13 years now, didn’t wait for change, she became the change the society needed.
She regularly visits orphanages, child protection homes and special needs homes in & around the city and does her best to help the children have a holistic childhood. But there is only so much she can do alone, 80% of her income goes into philanthropic activities which still falls short to help most of these orphanages that are in dire need of funds, some can't even afford groceries needed to feed the children.
“There are 50-55 children in each of these orphanages and each home has its own set of requirements. I wish I could do more but my resources are limited and I really need your support, all the help I can get.”
Following is the current requirement that 4 of these shelter homes need
Heaters, Geyser (25 ltrs), Quilts, Bedsheets, Quilt Covers, Groceries
The total estimation of the above mentioned cause is Rs 70,000. It might be a lot for a single person to contribute, but small contributions can help achieve this target in no time.
