Nishkam Vidya Mandir, a school for the underprivileged, is guided by its literal meaning- Service above Self. It was established in 1982 with a clear vision- Education for all, none left behind.
It focused mainly on the children deprived of education the most- children belonging to the slum, who are forced to work at a very young age due to their financial condition. This school brought a positive change over the last 40 years, making them believe that education is their only way out of this vicious cycle of poverty.
It was tough initially. We had to convince parents who believed that education is a waste of time and that children could earn some money instead. Our teachers went on foot, door to door, explaining to them the importance of education and that it was the only thing that can improve their children's future. And gradually from 15-17 students, we are now running a school of 750+ students.
